Brief Details:This event is for existing users of Xerte Online Toolkits (or page templates via the Windows application) and aims to extend your usage with more advanced page types, features and techniques. The workshop will be very hands-on and will also cover the very latest developments at the time of the event. This will include hidden options, undocumented features and tips and tricks, as well as examples from existing users.

  • To explore the optional and advanced features built-in to Xerte Online Toolkits
  • To inspire innovative practice using the more advanced features and techniques
  • To provide examples of advanced techniques from existing users
  • To raise awareness of the customisation and extensibility features
  • To encourage and enable effective use of the syndication and Open Courseware functionality

    Objectives;
    By the end of this session you will be able to:
  • Create, edit and manage learning objects using advanced features and techniques
  • Use the management features available via the admin account*
  • Use advanced features and techniques when importing media and linking to external media, including external flash files and Xerte models
  • Create interactive pages using optional and advanced features including simple code to improve functionality
  • Link LOs together and use simple javascript to link pages within an LO
  • Explore techniques for extending layout and interactivity with basic html
  • Make advanced use of RSS features including techniques for personalisation and differentiation
  • Make use of the more advanced collaboration features
  • Explore options for basic interface and LO customisation – including colour scheme, logos, help information and links to examples
  • Explore techniques to optimise use within a VLE

    Pre-requisites;
    Must be familiar with the basics of creating, editing and managing LOs created with Xerte Online Toolkits page templates. Use of image, sound, video editing tools would be an advantage but not essential.

    Ideally delegates should have access to previously created learning objects and a range of different media assets, although again this is not essential

    *Those wishing to customise an installation and/or explore management features should ideally have remote access to their own installation.
  • Target Audience: E-learning staff, learning technologists & teachers: existing Xerte Online Toolkits users wishing to explore more advanced features and techniques or those responsible for training colleagues in use of xerte. Delegates who are attending the beginners day in February would also find this advanced day useful. Open to RSC-WM supported learning providers in the West Midlands and limited to two per learning provider in the first instance.
